$1 Billion in K-12 Cuts Over Four Years. The Session Recap Called It a Win.

SB 5998 and HB 2289 — the supplemental budget bills — include K-12 education, early learning, and child care reductions totaling more than $1 billion over four years. Direct K-12 cuts: approximately $110 million. This happened in the same session that passed the millionaire tax.

The Communities In Schools of Washington is tracking the impact. The Washington Policy Center calculated that the legislature left $700+ million on the table while cutting education spending.
