Six Days Since Session Ended. The Governor Still Hasn’t Signed the Millionaire Tax.

The 2026 legislative session adjourned March 12. Governor Ferguson has publicly committed to signing SB 6346 — the 9.9% millionaire tax that’s supposed to generate $3.5 billion per year. He has 20 days from adjournment to act. That deadline is approximately April 1.

As of March 18, the governor’s bill actions page shows 38+ bills signed. SB 6346 is not among them. Ferguson has been signing healthcare, housing, childcare, and voting bills daily. The biggest revenue bill of the session is still waiting.

When he signs, opponents are expected to file suit immediately. The legal challenge will test whether the same arguments rejected in the capital gains tax case apply here. If a court issues an injunction, the three-year revenue gap becomes indefinite.
